Fun Ideas for Staying In

Here in the DC metro area, we are in week 7 of isolation from the physical outside world and things are getting a bit rough. J and I agree we are slowly losing our minds, but we combat that with Zoom calls with friends and trying new games at home. Here are a few ideas to keep yourself entertained while staying in.

Zoom Happy Hour Ideas:

  1. Jackbox.tv games. There are a variety of games you can play for a low price. These are the most popular games we’ve played so far. Personally, I like Quiplash the best. Find them here https://shop.jackboxgames.com/
  2. Drunk Pirate- a UK card game based online for free. There are some cards that require you to be in person, but we’d either skip them or modify them. https://drunkpirate.co.uk/
  3. Kings or any card game for free – https://deck.of.cards/
  4. Never Have I ever
  5. Two Truths and a Lie
  6. Memory games – Ex. Cheers Governor; “I went to the bar and ordered a…” person names a drink, the next person names the previous drink and adds a new one; Charades
  7. Hold an online book club.

Things to do at home:

  1. Board games
  2. Puzzle
  3. Hike
  4. Theme nights – Watch a movie or show and dress or make themed food/drinks. Example: Watch The Big Lebowski and drink White Russians. Or watch The Sound of Music while wearing lederhosen/dirndl and eating brats and pretzels paired with German beer.
  5. Try a new recipe.
  6. Bake something sweet and devour it guilt free because it’s going to be a while until you’re in public anyway.
  7. Read a book
  8. Yoga – Check out Yoga for Adriene on YouTube.
  9. Beer Pong
  10. Make a crazy cocktail: https://tipsybartender.com/
  11. Garden or water your house plants. Nature will boost your mood (probably).
  12. Learn American Sign Language: https://www.gallaudet.edu/asl-connect/asl-for-free/asl-by-topic
  13. Learn a dance on YouTube. Don’t be embarrassed if you leave a lot to be desired; no one can see you.
  14. Get swole for free. YouTube has thousands of workout routines. Fitness Blender is one of my favorite channels.
  15. Play video games. Rocket League is fun.
  16. Foster a dog or cat.
  17. Spa night – face masks, manicures, pedicures and massages (if your quarantining with an SO or just a very nice friend).
  18. Learn a new instrument. A Ukulele or harmonica are small and relatively inexpensive.
  19. Attend Church online. Or watch a TED talk if religion isn’t your thing.
  20. Paint with Bob Ross via Netflix
  21. Doodle Game – One person draws a squiggly line and the next person tries to turn it into something. Repeat with person two providing a squiggle to transform.

Not-so fun tasks you always say you’ll do:

  1. Paint that shabby room or DIY a project. I once updated my kitchen within a 24-hour period
  2. Deep clean your house. Don’t forget the baseboards and under the couch!
  3. Wash your car inside and out. Those sticky cup-holders won’t clean themselves.
  4. Bag your ill-fitted or damaged clothes for when donation centers are open.
  5. Print out pictures and hang them around your house.
  6. Scan old documents to save virtually and shred that paper.
  7. Do all the laundry. Even your comforter.
  8. Declutter by throwing out 1 item everyday (or save it for donations).

While being stuck at home may get boring, there are many ways to pass the time. I hope you try some or all these fun ideas while staying in! Let me know in the comments below which ideas you try.
