Feeling uninspired this Halloween season? Or maybe you got an invite to a costume party on Hallow-weekend and are dreading coming up with something clever. Well leave it to me my friend- Pick from my list of corny costumes that will elicit a pity laugh at minimum. The majority of the costumes listed below are ones you can easily replicate and likely with pieces from your closet.

Costumes for Singles
- Nerd: Requires black frame glasses, a collared shirt tucked into pants with a belt, tube socks and sneakers.
- Dad: Same as above but lose the glasses. To really sell the dad look, add a grilling apron and tongs and click them at people as you tell a terrible punny joke. The downside, if you choose to fully commit, is that you’ll be drinking light beer all night.
- Iron Chef: This is super easy and dorky. Wear an apron and tape “Fe” on the front. Fe is the symbol for Iron. Get it?
- Mucho Dinero: Tape multiple pictures of Robert Di Niro on your clothes. Is he even still acting? Maybe my age is showing…
- Ghost: A variation on a classic costume. Wear a white sheet with eyes cut out and print out your last text exchange with the tinder date who ghosted you. Gotta laugh to keep from crying right?
- When Life Gives you Lemons: Write “LIFE” on a shirt and proceed to give a lemon to every person who asks what you’re supposed to be. If it’s a large party, maybe cut the lemons into wedges. Inflation is not kind to this gag.
- Pumpkin Pi: Buy a pumpkin hat and draw the pi symbol on a shirt.
- Social Butterfly: Print out pictures of social media logos and wear a pair of wings. Or if you have a steady hand, you can face paint a butterfly directly on your face.
Costumes for Couples
9. Rum and Coke: Or any classic alcohol combination. When J and I did this costume, I wore a Coca Cola dress and he dressed up as Captain Morgan. It was our first couples costume EVER.
10. Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy: For those of you who don’t know, this is a SpongeBob reference. This costume can be achieved by a quick run to Target to get any necessary supplies.
11. Janet Snakehole and Burt Macklin: For my Parks and Recs fans, this costume is super easy to accomplish. You’ll need a blue jacket and yellow tape to write “FBI” for the guy’s outfit. And most women have a little black dress. Amazon sells those little veil hats that April wore.
12. Harley Quinn and the Joker: This is a fun costume and everything is available on Amazon. We’ve worn these costumes more than once so it’s great to have on hand!
Costumes for Families with a Baby
13. Football player, referee and a football – This is our family costume for 2022. J will dress up as Joe Flacco (Ravens), I’m a referee (I bought this shirt and a black baseball hat) and M is the football.
14. ICE, ICE, Baby– Dress as bags of ICE you buy from the store and your baby can go as is because they are ya know… a baby.
15. Beekeepers and bumble bee – You can buy beekeeping hats or if that’s too expensive, dress up as a flower. You can use colorful construction paper or wear floral prints.
16. Han, Leia and Grogu – Yes, I know that they are from different time periods but it’s the general Star Wars theme. And who can resist baby Yoda??
17. Han, Leia and an Ewok – The Star Wars trio for those who can’t get over the inaccurate timeline of my previous suggestion. Marshall’s sells really cute baby bear suits intended as winter coats. Yub Dub!
18. Jurassic Park – Dr Grant, Dr Sattler and a dinosaur. Because who doesn’t love a tiny dinosaur? If you want to be more topical you can dress up as the Jurassic World couple Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
That’s it for Halloween 2022! A lot of these ideas stand the test of time as we repeated some of these costume ideas more than once.
